History of the house
The Hotel Casa 1800 Granada is an old Granada house where the lords of Cañaveral, Counts of Benalúa, settled. Built in the latter third of the 16th century on the layout of an important Arab house, it currently exhibits a Castilian facade, a straight-line hallway, and a large staircase at the back, with Mudejar presence in the brackets of the courtyard and in the structure of uprights that support the upper floors. The property underwent significant modifications during the 17th and 18th centuries.
For several years the house was the former headquarters of the Migueletes troops, a military unit formed by the rural police during the Carlist times, whose predecessor was the Holy Brotherhood founded by the Catholic Monarchs in 1476, and whose mission was to patrol the properties and roads of the Crown of Castile.
Located in a protected historical building, it preserves from its origins the facade with Renaissance-style mural paintings and the charm of a building with a unique design, which makes all the rooms different.
In addition, it has an exceptional location, being at the foot of the Alhambra, thus offering fantastic views of this monument from some of its rooms and common areas.
